Position Summary:

As a Project Developer, you will work closely with the sales, development, design, and operations teams to effectively implement solar and energy storage technologies. This role involves a broad range of responsibilities, including project engineering, site evaluations, design optimization, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure the successful completion of solar and energy storage projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Engineering: Lead the engineering efforts for a large portfolio of K-12, commercial, industrial, and government solar, energy storage, and EV projects. This includes analyzing project constraints, evaluating site conditions, and performing constructability due diligence.
  • Design and Analysis: Develop and optimize design deliverables such as solar and battery system sizing, equipment selection, and layout configuration using AutoCAD, Helioscope, and PVSyst. Ensure compliance with AHJ, NEC, and utility requirements.
  • Site Evaluations: Conduct job walks to gather site-specific project information, including electrical switchgear details, potential areas for solar/storage/EV chargers, and identify potential issues.
  • Permitting and Compliance: Work with local jurisdictions to implement specific project requirements and ensure all designs and installations meet the necessary codes and standards.
  • Interconnection: Create and manage code-compliant single and three-line diagrams for interconnection applications. Review utility pre-screen reports, system impact studies, and interconnection service agreements.
  • Collaboration: Engage with professional engineers, project managers, sales teams, vendors, and subcontractors to support project success. Apply lessons learned from construction teams to optimize future designs.
  • Financial Analysis: Perform analyses of utility rate tariffs and generate annual financial projections. Develop cost estimates for project implementation, including engineering, equipment, subcontractors, project management, and O&M costs.
  • Client Interaction: Provide technical support during sales presentations and meetings with customers. Clearly communicate project expectations and progress to clients, stakeholders, and team members.
  • Innovation: Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes through consistent communication with peers and stakeholders. Participate in industry conferences and customer interactions to stay at the forefront of solar and energy storage technologies.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Construction Management; or five (5) or more years of related experience.
  • Experience: At least five (5) years of experience in PV system design and engineering, with a minimum of 1MW of development or design experience across ten or more projects.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Helioscope, and PVSyst is required. Experience with Bluebeam is preferred.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical systems, NEC codes, and the constructability of said systems.
  • Analytical Abilities: Ability to analyze project constraints, evaluate site conditions, and perform constructability due diligence. Competence in interpreting financial reports, business, professional, and technical documents.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively present information, respond to inquiries, and write technical reports, proposals, and presentations.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Capable of interpreting technical instructions and dealing with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Time Management: Ability to work independently, manage workload efficiently, and prioritize tasks under deadline pressure.
